Matthew James Redman or better known as Matt Redman is an English Christian worship leader, singer, songwriter, and author. Having released sixteen albums since the inception of his music career, Matt Redman has made a name for himself in the Christian music scene. Apart from his musical endeavors, he has also written eight books and helped start three church plants. The Grammy-Award-winning singer has mesmerized the world with his musical creations in the contemporary worship music scene.
Early Life
At the early age of 10, Matt Redman converted to Christianity and attended the Anglican Church of St. Andrew’s Chorleywood, in Hertfordshire. This was the period when he honed his musical abilities and learned to play the guitar. By the time he was 20 years old, Matt was already leading worship services and also released his first album. Soon after, Matt contributed to the foundation of Soul Survivor. Soul Survivor is a global Christian movement and music festival held once every year. This festival is aimed at the youth. From 1994 up until 2002, Matt Redman led worship services for Soul Survivor in Watford, England.
Music Career of Matt Redman
“Wake Up My Soul” was Matt Redman’s first album, recorded in 1994. This album featured some incredibly talented Christian music artists that included Iona’s Mike Haughton. percussionist Martin Neil, Split Level’s Adrian Thompson, Helen Burgess, and Les Moir on bass. The album was produced by Martin Smith. In 2005, he co-wrote the 2005 Dove-winning song “Blesses Be Your Name” with his wife. Over the course of his career, Matt has continued to create soulful music that inspires the soul from within.
Matt is best known for his two-time Grammy Award-winning single, “10,000 reasons (Bless The Lord)”. The song is written by Jonas Myrin and also topped the US Billboard Christian Songs chart in 2012. Matt and his wife, Beth, have created some of the most iconic worship music tracks including “Let My Words Be Few”. “You Never Let Go” and “Face Down” amongst others. Apart from his thriving music career, he has also authored several iconic books including “The Unquenchable Worshipper” and “Facedown”. Matt currently resides in the UK and is married to Beth Redman.
