Although the original hymn was Swedish, the English missionary “Stuart K. Hine created the English version through a loose translation. Popularised by Cliff Barrows and George Beverly Shea, “How Great Thou Art” is one of the most popular Christian hymns of all time.
How Great Thou Art
“How Great Thou Art” was originally written by Swedish poet Carl Gustav Boberg. The Swedish Hymn was titled “O Store Gud”. Carl Gustav was inspired to write the poem after walking home from church one day. While listening to church bells, he saw a storm covering the town. But eventually, everything came back to normal, and peace was restored. This prompted the poet to pen down his thoughts, which eventually led to the creation of the popular Swedish hymn.
